Australia's Baby Car

day for.the first time. It is a four-seater tourer, the alunir lum-alloy construction of which has mude possible the extremely light weight of 1000 lb. In a few months the Hartnett "Tasman," a saloon weighing 1050 lb., will be in production.

"In producing the Hartnett car we have aimed to put on the market a people's car," said Mr. L. J. Hartnett at the preview of the car yesterday, j Ile said the * Ta ci lie" was now ' available to the public, and it

was expected that in three \ months HO cars would be produced monthly, increasing

to between 400 and 500 cars by the end of the year. Sixtyeight lier cent, of the car was Australian produced, the main imports being the flat twin cylinder horizontally opposed four-stroke engine, gear box, instruments, and some of the brake fittings.

The "Cacilie" will sell at £549. It has a front-wheel drive. The engine is rated at 7 h.p., giving a maximum speed of 70 m.p.h. and petrol consumption of 60 miles per gallon.
