NEW YORK, Sunday.-Major Frederick Benjamin Carlin, a 35year-old Australian, is to embark from New York on a unique roundthe-world trip in a Ford amphibious jeep.

Carlin, who served with the Royal Indian Engineers in India, Iraq, Persia, Palestine, Syria and Italy, hopes to complete the trip in live

months.

With a cruising speed of five miles an hour, Carlin's jeep "Creation" has a marine radius of 2200 miles without extra petrol tanks.

He will carry two-way radio equipment on tho first leg of the journey, which will be from New York to the Azores (2604 miles) and Casablanca (0G0), then by land through Cairo (4000), Baghdad (1300), Delhi (3500), Calcutta (1200), and thence to Akyab, Burma by water (300). thence to Bangkok (1400), and Saigon (400) by land, then a series of water hops to the Philippines (850), Palau (1000), Truk (1100), Bikini (1100), Wake Is. (500), Midway Is (1300), and Honolulu (820) to San

Francisco (2407).

Carlin expects to start within a fortnight. _
