"Boy Who Bowled Bradman"

Dies of War Injuries

LONDON, Monday. -- Paul Wilson Brookes (24), who in 1938, made cricket news as "the boy who bowled Brad-man,'' died on Saturday night, in St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington.

Brookes was 16 when he bowled Brad-man at the practice nets, at Lord's. He was wounded in Italy in April, 1945, and was brought back to St. Mary's, where he had been bedridden ever since.

During the war, he served in the fire services in the London and Coventry blitzes and the Surrey dock fires. He joined the R.A.F. and later transferred to the Coldstream Guards, with which he was serving when he was wounded.
