MISS ELEANOR RATHBONE, M.P., lias accepted an invitation from the Co-lonial Secretary (Lord Cranborne) to become a, member of the Advisory Com-mittee on Welfare of Colonial People in the United Kingdom.

MR. P. C. VALLACOTT, Master of Peter House, Cambridge, and a former Headmaster of Harrow, who has been appointed Director of Political Welfare in the Middle East, has left England for Cairo.

MRS. CLAUDE THIRKELL, who was formerly Miss Miriam Harriett Hordern, eldest daughter of the late Anthony Hordern, of Sydney, cele-brated her golden wedding at Hamp-stead, 'England, on Tuesday.

MR. ¿i. R. ADAMS, chairman of the State Meat Board, has been recommended by the Government for the post of Deputy Meat Controller under tho Commonwealth Meat Commission. This was announced by the Minister for Agriculture (Mr. D' Altou) yesterday.

MR. C. G. WRAGG, Deputy Potato Controller, who arrived in Hobart yes-terday, will this morning meet Hobart potato merchants to discuss the in-auguration of a system of orderly mar-keting. Tho establishment of a cen-tral control method to bring this about will be discussed.

MR. E. C. ROTTEN, Deputy Com-missioner of Taxation, has been ap-pointed acting-Commissioner of Taxes during tho absence of tho State Com-missioner (Mr. H. C. Tapping) on an-nual leave.
