NEW STAND

NEW STAND AT W.A.C.A. GROUND

The new members' stand will be erected at the Western Australian Cricket Association's ground by Ralph and Sons, Nedlands Park contractors, at a tender price of £9,084. It. will be known as the Farley Stand. The build-ing will be commenced almost im-mediately east of the present public

stand. There will be seating accommo-dation for 1,500 persons, and the stand should be one of the best equipped in the Commonwealth. The Farley Stand will perpetuate the memory of the late secretary, Mr. W. J. Farley, by whose efforts the building was made possible. Members of the executive spoke in terms of glowing admiration of the fine qualities of the late Mr. Farley, and to his work first as president and then, as secretary of the W.A.C.A. Members considered that no man could have done more than he; many another man might with justifi-cation have surrendered the task in those days when the ground was nearly lost to cricket. But 'Jim' Farley fought on to overcome seemingly insur-mountable barriers, ultimately to suc-ceed. It was he who introduced trot-ting to the ground. The W.A.C.A. ground is now being converted into an up-to-date speedway. It is proposed by Perth Speedways Ltd. to hold the first meeting on Saturday, October 18.
