WEST AUSTRALIAN FILMS

AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT.

A large crowd gathered at the West Australian Trotting Association's racecourse on Tuesday morning to witness the 'shooting' of the big trotting race which is one of the exciting episodes in the Anglo-Australian Films, Ltd's first big pictures, which is to be ealle 'Down Under.'

The weather was dull and cloudy, and ♦his proved extremely suitable, as the idea is to show people in other parts of iiho world, where the picture will be exhibited, how trotting is conducted in this State under the electric lights. By a process of tinting, the scene when flashed on tho screen will have the appearance of having been taken at night and the lights, which were turned on, will show up strongly. Mr. Harry Southwell, will take the leading ninlo part, and the other sex will be mainly represented by Miss Ivy Deakin and Miss Nancy Mills, sister of 'Miss Australia,' who was considered by the producer to be even more suitable for screen work than her famous sister, Miss Beryl Mills. i The other scenes in the picture will bo taken in King's Park, Government . House Gardens, Mundaring Weir, and Serpentine Falls. The company will then migrate to Mr. Porter's station, 'Ear list on,' where they wijl spend about three weeks taking different parts of the plot of the film. The indoor work will be dons at White City, where sets and lighting arrangements are already being installed. Mr. Harry Southwell, the producer, is very optimistic in regard to the future success of the company, and predicts that this will be the foundation of a very large industry in this State. The contract with the British distributor calls for six pictures of outdoor life in Australia. These will be completed within about eighteen months, and

suuiuu prove a wonaerxm aavenisement to Western Australia ,as they will embrace the gold industry, tho pearl fisheries at Broome, life on cattle and sheep stations, and last, but not least, our very beautiftjWrWi forests in the South-West. ^^ ,s.v. ??'.''
