'VARSITY BOAT RACE

Win For Tasmania

A GREAT CONTEST

Sydney Crew Second

BRISBANE, Saturday. The 34th

inter-'Varsity eight-oar race was de-cided on the Hamilton reach of the Brisbane River today in ideal condi-tions, and was won by the Tasmanian University crew after a great race, by two and a half lengths from the Syd-ney crew, who beat Queensland by a similar margin. Victoria finished last another length and a half away.

There was little between the four crews for the first half-mile with Vic-toria holding a slight advantage. Queensland was half a canvas ahead at the end of the first mile, but shortly afterwards the Tasmanian crew forged ahead, and though the Sydney repre-sentatives made repeated dashes at the leaders, they could make no ma-terial impression on the Tasmanians, who won comfortably.Time 18 min. l

sec.

The winning crew comprised A. A. Koch (bow), I. Hay (7), C. E. Adam (6), D. Urquhart (5), F. Ford (4), J. A. Inglis (3), J. D. Hood (2), R. Scott (stroke), and H. Freebury (cox).
