There were two topers, one of whom pleaded guilty and was discharged, and the other was fined es., or in default 12 hours. ALLEGED LARCENY. A man named Henry Clarke, who was arrested by Constadle. Carmichael o0 suspicion of stealing a door mat, was roemanded until Friday. NEGLIGENT DRIVIrNG. A young man named Albert Simmonsen, discribed as a commercial traveller, was proceeded against for the above offence. Mr. Lyaon, who appeared for the complainant, Edwin L'Estrange, who a few years ago acquired some celebrity as the Australian Blondin, stated that on the evening df the 24th of August, while L'Eserangir was oe.his way to the Theatre Royal, where he was employed, he was knocked down whilst crossing Victoria-parade, and run over by the defendant who was driving a horse and boggy. SAlter the complainant had given evidence corroborative of the facts as stated by Mr. Lyons, the Bench fined Simmoncen e0s. with £2 2s. costs, or in default of distress, 7 days imprisonment. It is always a pleasure to notice improvements to the business places in the city, and we must commend the energy of Mr. J:J. Warden of Brunswick?street, corner of Hanover-street. Mr. .Warden has lately effected considerable improvement in the appearance of his establishment, and his attention to customers is so well known that it is needless to comment upon. Messrs. Davies and Steel are now showing a particularly choice lot of nesw season's goods in all departments. The Tailoring Department is under tlhe active supervision of MIr. Davies, and MIr. Swain still 0as charge of the cutting, so that clients may rest assured of having their wants well supplied.
