OBITUARY.

MR D. LEAHY DEATH has claimed Mr David Dudley Leahy, aged 88 years, a pioneer of the Timboon dis-trict. Born in Ireland, the late Mr Leahy, his wife and family came to Australia 50 years ago and settled in the Timboon dis-trict. He was a very highly re-spected member of the com-munity and well known throughout throughout the whole of the district. He passed away at the residence of his daughter (Mrs Hall), on Saturday, April 28, at Timboon. The sympathy of all will be extended to the family in their bereavemnent. The funeral took place to the Cobden cemetery on April 30, Rev. Fr. Callaghan officiating at the graveside. Members of the family are Gertrude, David (de-ceased), Edith (Mrs Hall), Ern-est (deceased), Jessie, Kathleen, Martin and Nora. The funeral was attended by many repre-sentatives of all parts of the district. Coffin-bearers were, Messrs R. Beard, A. Simpson, S. Perrett, W. Sadler. Pall-bearers were Messrs J. Morgan, G. Sul-livan, N. Baxter, L. Hall, P. Hall, R. Rowe, H. Chivers, C. Church. MR F. G. BEATON Quite a gloom was cast over the town when it was learned that Mr Frederick Beaton had passed away following an oper-ation in Melbourne. Mr Beaton had suffered an illness of a short duration. He was born in the Coleraine district 51 years ago, and came with his wife to the Jancourt district about 22 years ago, where he settled on a farm. The late Mr Beaton was highly thought of by every sec-tion of the community and took a keen and active interest in all organisations pertaining to the district. His only son, Jack, is in the services and was absent at the time of his fath-

er's passing. To his widow and family of three, Jack (A.I.F.), Kathleen and Edith, of Jan-court, the sympathy of all will be extended. Mr Beaton and family had resided on the Mt. Myrtoon Estate, near Camper-down, for the past three years. where he was employed, and had just returned to their own property at Jancourt. The funeral took place to the Cobden cemetery on May 1. leaving the Camperdown rail-way station, Rev. H. G. Ford officiating at the graveside. The large number present was a tribute to Mr. Beaton and family. Coffin-bearers were Messrs A. Beaton, W. Rigby, S. Baker, J. Beaton, W. Beaton and A. Howard. Supporters of the pall were Messrs P. McMahon, S. Pillar, Bert Clarke, L. Baker, R. Clarke, A. McLean, F. Moore and J. Thornton. MR. D. NICOLSON. The death occurred at his re-sidence, Scott street, Colac, on May 5, of Mr Donald Nicolson, at the age of 76 years. Born at Clarendon, the deceased went to Gippsland with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs John Nicol-son. After a number of years at Kongwak, he came with his wife and family to the Western District in 1918, to Camperdown, and to Colac in 1922, where he was employed for a number of years with both the Colac Shire Council and the Country Roads Board as road supervisor. With his widow, he leaves an adult family of two daughters and four sons to mourn their loss, and to them the sympathy of all is extended in their sorrow. The interment took place in the Colac cemetery, and the large gathering showed to no small extent the esteem in which both he and his family are held.
