HOBART TOWN ; SATURDAY, AUGUST 19, 1817.

SITTING MAGISTRATE.- A. F. KEMP, ESQ.

SHIP NEWS. - Arrived yesterday the sloop Mermaid, Captain

SCHOLEY, from Calcutta, having on board Mr. CHRISTIANSON, Supercargo, with tea, sugar, spirits, and piece goods.

The brig Governor Macquarie, Mr. THOMAS REIBEY master, will sail on Wednesday next for Port Dalrymple.

Tuesday last being the Anniversary of the Birth of His Royal High-ness the Prince Regent, it was observed as a holiday throughout the Settlement, and celebrated with the usual demonstrations of loyalty and joy.- In the evening His HONOR the LIEUTENANT GOVERN-OR entertained the Civil and Military Officers and Gentlemen of the Colony ; and the utmost harmony and satisfaction prevailed.

The Bush-rangers committed a robbery at Clarence Plains on Sun-day evening last; after which they became so excessively intoxicated by spirits (a part of their plunder), as to quarrel amongst themselves. Rollands, who was taken and brought in by Mr. Maum and other settlers on Monday morning, had been dreadfully beaten and bruised by his companions. White was brought in on the following morning, and Johnson on Thursday evening - both taken by the party of the 46th regt. under Lance Serjt. McCARTHY, who, with Black Mary and another Native Girl, pursued and tracked them.

Nearly all the Bush-rangers who lately escaped have been taken, as will be seen by an interesting statement in a Government and Ge-neral Order of this week: and rapid strides are making towards the total annihilation of a Banditti which can only become formidable where a want of sufficient energy and spirit exists.

There now remain at large of the old Bush-rangers, - Septon, Collier, Coine, and Brune; Watts, who keeps separated from the rest; Howe, who it is supposed lately left Hobart Town, but has not been heard of; and two of those who lately ran from George Town.

COURT of ENQUIRY. --The Court lately assembled to investigate charges exhibited against Mr. Acting Assistant Commissary, Ge-neral BROUGHTON, by EDWARD LORD, Esq. continued fitting dur-ing last week, and having examined the witnesses on both sides, broke up on Monday. The opinion of the Court was not imme-diately made known ; but we understand it to have, been that there were grounds (or the charges going before a General Court Martial
