TWELVE DAYS IN A TERRIFIC GALE. The barque Loch Bredan, which left Sydney nearly a month ago for Liverpool, has returned to port to repair damages sustained in gales encountered in the Tas-man Sea. The captain reports that gales raged with great fury and tremendous seas swept over the vessel for a period of twelve. days. On May 12 a furious southerly gale struck the vessel, which was almost under bare poles, lifting two of the boats clear of the skids and reduc-ing them to matohwood. The third boat was also carried away from its fastenings, but though damaged it was saved. Two davits were snapped off at the rails, and a wave stove in the forecast's doors, damaging tha deckhouse and galley, and smashing the poop rails and washing away ladders and deck fittings. The oabin was also flooded. The crew had a perilous experience. One or two were knocked about, but not seriously. Oil was used during the gale with fairly good results.
