DOMIESTIC IN'rELLIGENCE. BOTANICAL GARnness. -Those of our readers who. have an occasional hour to spare, would find it not unprofitably spent in a visit to our Botanical Gardens. Although so recently commenced, and although the process of clearing and laying out is neces. sarily slow, there is a very perceptible improvement. The beds, as far as they are dug up, are well stocked with plants, and the paths are becoming gradually cleared. The curator's house near the entrance is also beginning to assume at habitable shape. PorTLANu WOOL Msalaeir: -In Clough and Co.'s Circular we find the following :--We beg to inform you that at the request of a number of Settlers, in the Portland and Western districts, we have betn, induced to open a branch Agency of our house its the town of Portland, for the purpose ot receiving and forwarding wools, intended for sale or shipment in Melbourne, which will be under. the imanagement of Mr. G. P. Ord,. who is well.known to muny of the Settlers in your district. The stores are situated in Percy Street, Portland, and in the imnnediate neighbourhood of the pier. As many ofour frieuds have thoughtit desirable to establish periodical wool salos at Portland, and should we receive the necessary uamount, of support this season, we shall be happy to make arrangenments to carry that proposal.into effbct next year. ROADS AT IIEATIOCOTs.--Mr. Everard, alter some discussion, withdrew his motion in reference to a situm of £15,000 being placed on the Estin stes for providtn; roads and bridges in the electoral district of Heathcote. BRIDGEt OVER TIIR YARRA FALLS.Mr. R. S. Anderson also, after some discussion, withdrew his motion to the effect that a suan of £25,000, should bo placed on the ,Estimiates for the erection of a bridge over thie Y:t'ra, at the Falls.
