CHRISTMAS DINNER WVAS A REAL LUXURY. Several Portland, residents who were away from home on Christmas' day "found that the. cost -of their Christmas dinier was a real, luxury, insofar as. the' cost was concerned. At several- places in this and other .States, the minimum charge was £1/1 (without drink) W and . at one place those who partook . of the poultry dinner were asked to pay 35/- per 'person (without drink.). One party of five .who had their Christmas dinner at one of these : places was presented with. a bill for £8, but this included a few drinks.. Certainly, Christmas comes once' a year, and it is just as well it does for some people. It was surprising, however, to note 'the large. number of the travelling public who had their Christmas dinner on the road at a cost .of- a few shillings.
