THE JOHN L. YOUNG SCHOOL.

The third reunion of old scholars of the John L Young Adelaide Educational Institution, opened in 1852 and closed in 1880, was held in Gawler Chambers on Tuesday evening Dr. J. C Verco presided over a big gathering The chairman and Messrs. P. Wood, F.W Bullock J.T. Fitch, E.S. Hughes, F.G. Scammell, and W.H.Phillipps were appointed a scholarship committee to confer with the Adelaide Univer- sity in an effort to decide upon the most suit-able subject tor a scholarship to perpetuate the memory of Mr. John L Young, who died while crossing the Red Sea on July 26, 1881. The first old scholars' dinner was held in 1867, and it was not until 1912 that the reunion occurred, and the second was held in 1913 The scholarship fund was organised in 1912, and it has now been decided to keep it open until next year, when the scholarship committee will make its report. A silent toast was drunk to "the memorv of our old master, Mr John L. Young," and the others were, in addition to that of "The King,'' 'The old school-The Adelaide Educational Institution," and '"Absent old scholars." Messrs. F. F. A. Chapman and Sims contributed vocal items,, aid Messrs. I. W. Partridge and J. T. Fitch elocutionary numbers.
