CHRISTMAS GIFTS. ------x---Christmas is now fast approaching. Many will agree that one of the most enjoyable things about Christmas is the giving and receiving of Xmas boxes, and those who are wise enough to look ahead and avoid the last minute rush are now engaged in the pleasant task of searching the shop windows and purchasing their gifts. People with a wide circle of friends and relatives know from experience that the choosing of suitable presents is by no ntmeans easy, especially in the case of those of us with only a lintted amount of cash available for the purpode. There is one thing, however, that we can all make ulp our minds to do, regardless ot the size of our income, and that is to putrchase only Australian-made gifts and toys this year. The variety of locally made goods suitable for the purpose now being displayed in the shop windows is almost unlimted, and there is no excuse whatever for spending our money on imported articles. The Commonwealth statistician informs us that there are now well over six millions of people living in Austrolia. If they spend an average of 3/- each on Christmas presents this year, the total will amount to over £1,000,000. Think of the vast amount of extra employment it would give to Australians if all this money wc;ere spent on Australian made goods-fully half a million poundis in wages alone. For your own sake, and for the sake of your fellow citizens, make definitely certain that all. Christmas boxes purchased by you this year are Australian-made.
