LACROSSE. .

STURT WON THE PREMIERSHIP.

The 1925 lacrosse season was concluded on Saturday afternoon, when Sturt (minor premiers) overwhelmingly defeated East 'forrens in the A grade final. The game

was played on the Unley Oval, and was umpired by Mr. H. Hocking, with Messrs. A. J. Lee and F. Davidson as goal umpires. The final scores . were: — Sturt, 11 goals; East Ton-ens, 3 goals. The first half was evenly contested, but thereafter the Sturt men demonstrated that they were better trained, and that their team work was far superior. . Tlie first quarter was very even, and each side threw . a goaL Sturt held the upper hand in the second term, and by means-- of cleaner passing ?? and asserting their predominance in all-round -play, led by 5 goals to 3 at half-time. Sturt did practically what they liked with the ball m ,the third term, and completely outclassed East ? Torrens. : In no uncertain fashion they demonstrated their superiority in all departments of the game. They also appeared to be a better' trained

team, and they made' the pace too hot for their opponents. The:r system -out-witted Torrens. especially in the back lines. Torrens failed to score in this term, while Sturt found the net five times. The last quarter was somewhat dull, after the spectacular display by Sturt in the third term. Torrens were kept busy defending their goal. They closed in round the net effectively, and Sturt. broke through once only. At the other end, Sturt had no difficulty in clearing whenever Torrens pressed dangerously close. Stnrt did not exert themselves, and won handsomely by 11 to 3. The play Generally was patchy, relieved by a number of sparkling runs by Sturt. The stick work of the -winners -was much cleaner, and their passing more accurate than, that of the losers. They were also much faster. The best players were:— Sturt— Brooks. Tonkin, Kinsman. East Torreris— Boyce, Thomson, Tileman. Goalthrowers:— Sturt— Kinsman f4), Clayton, Brooks. Stubbs (2 each), Selth. East To'rrens— Pearce. Thomson. Skinner. . A collection was made to augment the funds of the 1926 carnival. '
