At noon on Friday a salute of 21 guns was fired at the Parade Ground to celebrate the 12th anniversary of the coronation of His Majesty King George the Fifth. Dr. A. J. Lanza, of the Rockefeller Foundation, who was lent to the Commonwealth Government as adviser in hygiene, left by the Melbourne express on Friday afternoon, after having inspected the new Commonweath Government's public health laboratory at Port Pirie. The Acting Premier (Sir John Bice) returned by the express on Friday morning from Melbourne, where he attended the special meeting called by the Prime Minister to consider the appointment of Mr. V. H. Ryan as co-ordinating officer of the British Empire Exhibition, and the charge by the Returned Sailors and Soldiers' Imperial League, that the appointment was a contravention of the pledge ihat returned soldiers would have special preference in Commonwealth Government appointments. Sir John made no comment on what had taken place. The meeting has been adjourned uniil next Friday. Madame Lucie Gillespie — who returned to Adelaide at the latter end of last year, after some years of successful concert work in England— has been enjoying a well-earned . rest. the concert platform, Madame Gillespie lias consented to make her opening appearance here at the Lord Mayor's civic concert, . to be given next Thursday evening, June 28, in the Adelaide Town Hall. 'The jewel song,' from 'Fuast,' and Arditi's 'H Baccio' have been selected for the occasion. The Commissioner of Public Works (Hon, T. Pascoe), who has been spending a holiday in Sydney, ia expected to return by the express on Sunday morning. Mr. E. C. Riddle, late manager of the Commonwealth Bank, Perth, who passed through Adelaide on Thursday on bis way to New South Wales, has been appointed manager of the Sydney branch of the bank, and not Acting Governor of the institution, as previously reported \ in The Register. Owing to the strain of overwork Lady Moulden has been forced to resign her position aa President of the' -National Council of Women of South Australia. Her resignation was placed before the council at its meeting on Thursday evening, and, in accepting it, a note of appreciation was accorded by the members to Lady Moitlden for the valuable services she had rendered during the term of her presidency. Special mention was also made of the practical interest and unfailing courtesy which Sir Frank Moulden had always shown in the work of the National Council. Our London correspondent states that many persons stood in a queue for 12 hours before Covent Garden Theatre on Thursday night in the hope of hearing Dame Nellie Melba sing iu 'Faust.' Her characterization of Marguerite is described as a revelation and a triumph.

After the closing hour of the General Traffic Manager's office ou Wednesday evening, between 20 and 30 of the staff assembled in the manager's room to wish good luck to Mr. W. R. Clark, a member of the staff, on the eve of his entry into the bonds o£ matrimony. The gathering was made the occasion of presenting Mr. Clark with a clock and tobacco jar as a token of the esteem in when he is held by his officers and office companions. The gifts were handed to Mr. Clark in well-cho6en remarks by Mr. B. H. Gillman (Assistant General Traffic Manager). The recipient suitably replied. Probate has been granted to the will of Mrs. Agnes May Chambers, widow, who died at Prospect on May 26. She possessed an interest in the Comongin and Nickavilla Stations, Queensland. The estate, -which has been sworn, not to exceed £29,600 in value, has been left to the family. The will of Mr. David Nicholas, fromerly of Lyndoch, who died at North Unley on April 13, has been admitted to probate. The estate (sworn not to exceed £20,300) has been left for the benefit cf the widow and children. Application for probate has been lodged by the Executor Trustee and Agency Com pany of South Australia, Limited, and MrG. A. Fabian, as executors of the will of Dr. Alfred Austin Chancellor, of Tweed Heads, New'South Wales. The estate has been sworn not to exceed £4,500 in 7alue. The Federal Treasurer (Dr. Page) returned to Sydney on Friday, owing to the serious illness of his son, who has been/ admitted to a private hospital. Before leaving by the express Dr. Page was informed that there had been no improvement in the condition of his son, and

much sympathy was expressed by fellowmembers. The Federal Minister for Works and Railways {Mr. Stewart), who has been confined to his room in Melbourne for some days, Buffering from an attack of influenza, has sufficiently recovered to leave for his home. In the absence of Mr. Stewart the Prime Minister (Mr. Bruce) introduced the Main Roads Development Bill in the House of Representatives on Friday.
