Death of Mrs. Black, of Cork Hill. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) BRIDGEWATER, July 27. Another of our old residents has passed away in the person of Mrs Black, of "Cork Hill," on Saturday morning. The deceased lady had been ailing for some time, and the end was not unexpec ted. The late Mrs Black was one of the oldest residents of Bridgewater, having arrived in this country some 6o years ago, accompanied by her late husband, the late Rev Mr. Laurie, who was the first Presbyterian minister in Portland. Some time after his death she married the late Mr. Joshua Black, and resided at Bridgewater ever since---c.o 1. years. She survived the, late Mr Black by 27 years. During her residence in Portland and Bridgewater Mrs Black made many and lasting friends, arnd was always held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, and during her long residence here she was known for her charitable acts and kindness of- heart. 'She leaves behind her to mourn their loss one daugh-ter (Mrs Samuel Kenny) and six sons; the oldest of whom is Mr A. F. Laurie, ot Mount Gambler, well-known as the senior partner of the firm ot Laurie and Watson, proprietors of the Border Watch. Another son very widely and favourably known is Mr Robert Black, of Mokanger station. The other sons, also well-known and highly respected, are mostly engaged in farming and pastoral pursuits. The interment took place at the North Ceme tery, Portland, on Monday, and there. mains were followed from Bridgewater by a large concourse of people to the Presbyterian Church, Portland, where a short service was conducted, and an ap propriate address delivered by the Rev, Thomas Shanks, subseqnently the cor. tege left the church for the cemetery. where the remains were laid to rest along side of her first husband, the Rev, Mr Laurie.- The funeral procession was one of the largest, if not the largest ever seen in Portland. At the graveside the Rev Mr Shanks conductea the service of the Presbyterian Church in a very im pretsive manner. The mortuary arrange. ments were carried out by Mr Jarrett,
