MUNICIPAL ELECTION RESULTS

Labor Party Loses Seats REVERSES IN CITY AND COUNTRY

Corporation elections were held throughout the State today. Labor suffered a reverse in the defeat of Mr. S. Whitford for the Adelaide City Council, and the loss of the mayoralty of Port Pirie. Mr. A. A. Edwards retained Grey Ward, but his opponent, Mrs. A. K. Goode, has lodged a protest.

'Under the Act governing municipal elections, my opponent was guilty of breaches of the Act, and I wish to protest against his election,' said Mrs. Goode, in rising to speak at the declaration of the poll in the Adelaide Town Hall. She drew attention to alleged improper practices of her opponent. 'Under 'Under the Act,' Mrs. Goode continued, 'it is illegal for a candidate to carry electors to the poll, or to be inside a polling booth on the day of the election. My opponent has done both these things today. I have no wish, however' Mrs. Goode concluded, 'to take my seat in the council until the numbers put me there, and I enter this protest so that a ruling can be obtained and the Act truly interpreted.' Cr. Edwards was not present at the declaration of the poll, and Cr. F. W. Trundle thanked the electors of Grey Ward on his behalf. Results: — ADELAIDE MAYOR Charles R. J. Glover (unopposed). ALDERMEN Frederick George Downs and George Henry Prosser (unopposed). AUDITOR Henry Howard Austin (unopposed). COUNCILLORS HINDMARSH WARD.— Jonathan Robert Cain (unopposed).
