WOOTHAKATA NOW MAREEBA SHIRE BRISBANE, December 18.— Under an order-in-council approved to-day, the Woothakata Shire would in future be known as the Mareeba Shire, said the Minister for Local Government (Mr. Power). The Shire Council in support of its request for change of name, had pointed out that the original Woothakala Shire, comprising portion of the present area, was greatly increased by the inclusion of the Barren, Walsh, and Chlllagoe Shires. The present shire would be better identified by the new name, as Mareeba was the largest town in the shire, and also where the Council had its offices.
