THE WRECK OF THE H.M.S. HOWE. London, Jan. 8. The inquiry by a court-martial into the conduct of Vice-Admiral Henry Fairfax, the senior officer in command of the Channel squadron, in connection with the stranding of H.M.S. Howe near Ferrol last month, was concluded yester-day. The charge against the Admiral was that of laying a hazardous course for the vessel when entering Ferrol. Admiral Fairfax was acquitted on the ground that the chart of Ferrol Harbour was unreliable. The Court was three hours in arriving at a decision. It was considered tlat the reduction in the speed of the vessel at the moment of entering the harbour was inexpedient.
