MISS DOREEN HORDERN. Engagement Announced. SYDNEY, February 9. Sir Samuel and Lady Hordern have received a cable from their elder daughter, Doreen, announcing her engagement to Oscar Pennings, of Marlborough, Wiltshire.Miss Miss Hordern went to England six months ago to stay Indefinitely. In her letters to her family no mention was made about an engagement so the cable came as a surprise. Some years ago Sir Samuel Hordern while In England met his daughter's fiance, who had been In Australia since. Miss Hordern met htm then. It is understood Miss Hordern's home will be in Wiltshire, where her fiance lives on his estate. He Is a son of the late Octavius Peall and Mrs. Peall of London. Although she has spent a large proportion ot the last few years abroad, especially since the marriage of her only sister, Mrs. W. Winter Irving, of Melbourne. Miss Hordern is a well known member of Sydney society. She does not play a very prominent part In ordinary social life, her chief interest being In her garden and home at Darling Point, and birds. She is a member of the Ornithological Society.
