THE NEW BAKEWELL BRIDGE.

BOON TO WESTERN SUBURBAN TRAFFIC. The substantial structure, at Mile End which is illustrated* above is a further indication of enterprise warranted by the growth of traffic. Not only has this- bridge removed the former risk or accidents due to the level crossing, bat it will be of special advantage to business houses which have heavy traffic along that route; and also materially relieve the tramway congestion In Kim William street, as the western suburban traffic will now be diverted along Currie street The bridge Is of -reinforced concrete, the eastern approach consisting of a bank 240 ft long, and approach span 150 ft, the bridge proper over the railway 294.ft, western approach span 170 ft, and approach bank 340ft, or a total length of 1,194 ft, with a width of 60 ft, and a height of 16 ft . from' the .rails to bridge girders. It carries two sets of tram tracks with a roadway of penetration macadam on the approaches and bitumen over the . bridge, on each side,- for other vehicles,- and a footpath on the southern side. A stairway on each side of the bridge gives excess to the lower levels. The ' total cost is £86.000, of which amount the Municipal Tramways Trast Is contributing £57,000, the Government £25,000, and the Adelaide Corporation ' £4,000. Lighting will be Installed this week.
