PHYSICIAN'S SUDDEN DEATH |

The Late Dr. Alfred Wigg.

'A cablegram was received in Adelaide dn Sunday that Dr. Alfred Wigg had died suddenly in London. Deceased, who left Adelaide in January last, and intended to return, had broken down in health, and went on this trip to recuperate. He was born at North Adelaide in 1867, and re-ceived the rudiments of his education at Mr. J. L. Young's academy. He won several coveted prizes there, and prior to leaving for England to complete his edu-cation and commence his medical studies, he took a course in classics under Professor Reid, at the Adelaide University. On reaching London the late Dr. Wigg entered a medical class in the University College, to which he was attracted by the eminence of the teachers, notably Sir William Jenner. He was a medallist in clinical medi- cine, and after further studies on the Conti-nent, returned to South A'ustralia in 1882, and commenced practice at Norwood, with which district in particular he was connected until his retirement in 1913. From the time of his arrival in Adelaide the deceased became a member of the medical staff and board of management of the Children's Hospital. He was senior surgeon when he retired, and was appointed honorary consulting surgeon. Dr. Wigg was a tireless worker. In 1905 he made an extended tour of Europe, to regain bis hfealth. On his return nine months later, he resumed his duties as hard as ever, and when his health again threatened to break down he was prevailed upon to retire, and disposed of his practice to Dr. Powell, of Kadina. In January last the deceased left Adelaide with his wife and daughter. Miss Phyllis Wigg, with the intention of touring Europe once more. Dr. Wigg left a widow and two daughter&T-Mrs. J.Stanley Murray, and Miss Phyllis Wigg. The deceased was President and one of the founders of the East Torrens Bowling Club, and he -had played for South Australia in interstate bowline matches. He was a keen supporter of many other sports, and lis death' will' be deeply regretted, especially toy many friends in East Torrens.-
