Historic Cottage In Grave Danger

MELBOURNE, Saturday.— Gover-nor Latrobe's cottage, Melbourne's first Government House, is in danger of falling to pieces. Recent thunderstorms damaged

the timber structure, which is weakened by senile decay m its ninetyfifth year. The rain has severely .damaged the ceiling of the old banqueting halL and contractors fear that another heavy storm might send the tall brick chimney crashing down, and bring the historic cottage in ruins to the ground. Because of the delicate state of the framework and chimney repairs would be difficult and extremely costly. The damaged ceiling, however, will be repaired at a cost of about £100.
