STARS OF THE AIR MRS. JENKINS;IN "BLUE HILLS"

ALMA BUTTERFIELD, of Sydney, who plays Mrs. Jenkins in the A.B.C. serial, "Blue Hills," is realising her life-long ambition to .become. a character actress. For, some years the domestic scene has claimed her full time, and it is only during the past twelve months that she has been able to return to radio.

H er first character part for the A.B.C. was as Mrs. Brown in " The Lawsons". Sincethen then she has had a modest variety ' of character and comedy roles.

In commercial radio she has played in PHagan's Circus" and has also been prominent in some

of the "Aunt Jenny Real Life Stories" Apart from •acting she has !a gift for writing. 'She has written humorous articles, some of which have been published in "Woman" and "New Idea". 'She is the author of six children's stories; has 'had two children's plays accepted by publishers and several poems published in the children's column in the "Herald". Alma Butterfield. is an ardent gardener with a great love of the. bush and outdoor life.. She lives at Epping, a semi-rural suburb of Sydney, and likes nothing better than hiking along the country roads. . Just recently Joyce Arthur, who was a well-known radio personality before she married and went to America, returned to this country, and one of the first persons she visited .was her former teacher, Alma Butterfield.
