GREAT FIRE IN GLASGOW.

SOAPWORKS DESTROYED. £80,000 Damage. LONDON, June 28.

A tremendous fire occurred in Glasgow on Monday night, when Messrs. Ogston and Tennant's great soapworks were destroyed. The spectacle was a remarkably brilliant one and picturesque in its awful grandeur.

In a few moments after the first alarm the whole place was well alight. The tallow, fat, soap, and oils with which the premises were stocked aided the fire in its fury, and the burning raw and finished products as they blazed gave forth some extraordinary scents. Soon after the reels reached the spot the floors, which were weakened by the support-ing beams being burnt, gave way, and the heavy machinery crashed through from the shop floor into the cellars, where it lay a ruined mess. All the drains in the vicinity were choked by a mixture of oil, soap, and wax which flowed out in a burning mass from the fated building.
