THE NEW RHODES SCHOLAR
T. A. L Davy Selected
Everyone-well almost everyone-is pleased that young T. A. L. Davy has been chosen the W.A. Rhodes scholar
THE SIXTH RHODES SCHOLAR
this year. The boy has given evi-dence of exceptional scholastic possibi-
lities, and has for several years been regarded as a prospective "Rhodes" winner. At the age of 14 he won the High School Exhibition, and the fol-lowing year was second on the list for the Adelaide University Junior exami-nation, taking the special University prize of £5 for the boy who comes se-cond. In 1907 he was first in the Ade-laide University Senior examination, and last year was ninth on the honor list for the Higher Public examina-tion. As an athlete, he promises well in all branches - cricket, football, swim-
ming, rowing and running.

The successful candidate is the son of the late Dr. T. G. Davy, who had a distinguished University career, and was esteemed as a scientist. From his
record, it will be seen that young Davy's qualifications are as great as any of the previous Rhodes scholars from this State-greater, indeed, than might be gathered from the unenthu-siastic notice which appeared in the "West Australian." Had one of the other candidates, for instance, who blazons a new-born hyphen, and is re-lated by marriage to the editorial "We," been chosen, it is easy to imagine the ecstatic column that would have been devoted to his tri-umph. For ourselves, we congratulate the committee upon the excellence of its judgment. The scholarship is worth £300 per annum for three years, and the winner will leave for Oxford in a month or so.
