MELBOURNE, August 16.An RAAF Canberra jet bomber, flying from Amberley <Q) to Christchurch (N.Z.) today, set a new trans-Tasman record. It covered the 1345 miles In 2 hrs 25 nuns.

At 1.53 p.m. the Canberra touched down at Laverton (Melbourne) to end a 14,000mile flight in 28 hours, flying time. An hour and a half be-fore lt arrived the first Austra-lian-built Canberra jet left Laverton on an 8325-mile flight.

The Canberras are preparing for the London-Christchurch Centenary air race and, af the same time are smashing many Australasian air records. Be-tween Amberley and Christ-church the plane averaged 640 miles an hour.
