DEATH OF MR KEANE, M L C

At a Private Hospital

Mr. Edward H. V. Keane, the new-ly elected member of the Legislative Council, who defeated Mr Dempster, the late representative for the Cen-tral Province, died at Miss McKim mie's private hospital yesterday morning. He succumbed to pleurisy and pneumonia, supervening on a severe chill received during the elec-tion campaign. Mr. Keane was one of the Assistant Engineers for

the South Australian Govern-

ment during the making of the railway from Kapunda to the Murray River. He married a daughter of Mr. Abraham White, of Kapunda, whose cousin (Mr. J. Wharton White) was recently Rabbit Fence Inspector in this State. Mr. Keane came to Western Australia after his marriage and en-tered on a prosperous career till heavy reverses overtook him in connection with the Midland Railway. He was elected a member of the Lower House

in 1890 and the following year became Mayor of Perth. Though an active

speculator during the great gold boom it was not Mr. Keane's luck to get

any of the sensational prizes.
