HANDEL'S "MESSIAH."

"God Save Handel" strongly expresses the hope that in the Christmas season there will be no "travesties of the mighty Han-del's Messiah." Trumpery little church choirs of 20 voices or so should not attempt to render the stupendous 'Hallelujah chorus, for instance, with a wheezy cabinet organ or a wretchedly played pipe organ, or with an unskilled conductor who, not knowing the tempo, may take it at twice its pace.'
