THE LATE ALLAN McFARLANE.

"W. McHughes," West Wellington, ex-presses his esteem for the late Mr. Allan McFarlane, and respect for his memory, and suggests that some coloured men

should have said something regarding him, particularly on account of his kindness and the employment which he gave to them, for many years. "During the busy time of the shearing he never sent a poor native away, but always provided some means for the poor man to earn a little for himself and his family. When I was at Mr. McFarlane's funeral I noticed a number of my coloured brethren weeping for their late employer, and well they might, because of what he had done for them! It filled my heart with joy to see that they appreciated his kind-ness. No doubt, much sympathy and com-fort are shown towards the bereaved family, and I hope myself that they will be greatly blessed, and ever bear in mind the generosity of their dear father towards the poor natives."
