SIR SAMUEL McCAUGHEY"S

WILL.

VALUABLE BEQUESTS.

Sydney, August 1.

The following statement of bequests have been obtained officially from the executors of the late Sir Samuel McCaughey. By his will, dated February 1. 1918, he ap-pointed his brother, Mr. John McCaughey, of Yarrabee, Marrandera, Mr. Matthew Robinson, of Toorale station, Bourke, and Mr. James Ashton, M.L.C, of Sydney, his executors and trustees. After giving lega-cies amounting to about £230,000, Sir Samuel bequeathed the following sums:-£10.000 upon trust as to half the income for the clergymen of the Presbyterian Churches at Bourke. Urana, Jerilderie, and Narrandera, the other half of the income to be (paid to the Presbyterian Assembly of New South Wales to assist in increas-ing the stipends of poorly-paid clergymen of that denomination in New South Wales '£20,000 for the Scots' Collegse, Sydney; £10,000 for the Sydney Grammar School; £10,000 for the North Sydney Church of England Grammar School: £10,000 for the Cranbrook Church of England Grammar School; £10,000 for Newington College

Stanmore: £10,000 for the King's School.Parramatta; £5,000 for the Salvation Army; £5,000 for the Bourke Hospital; £5,000 for the Urana Hospital; £5,000 for the Jerilderie Hospital; £5,000,for the, Narrandera Hospital £5,000 for the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital; £5.000 for the Sydney Hospital: £5.000 for the Royal Alexandra Hospital!; £6,000 upon trust to pay the income to the clergymen for the time being of the Presbyterian churches Gloughwater, Broughshane and Clurh, County Antrim, Ireland, £20,000 for the Burnside Orphan Homes at Parramatta.

The residue of the" estate is divided into

two equal shares. One share is directed to be held in trust as to two parts of the

annual income for the University of Syd ney, and the remaining one-third of the annual income for the University of Bris-

bane. The other share of the residue. is divided into three parts, two of which are to be applied for the relief or assist-ance of members of the Australian Mili-tary and Naval Expeditionary Forces who have served on active service abroad, or the widows and children of such members as may have been killed or died of wounds in the recent war. The remaining third part is divided into three parts, of which two parts are to be applied towards the advancement of religion in the State of New South Wales, in accordance with the tenets of the Presbyterian Church of Aus-tralia, and for such general educational purposes of that church as the General assembly, may from time to time deter mine; and the remaining third part is to

applied for the same objects in the State. of Queensland.

The value of the estate is about £1,750,000. The residue of the estate is expected to be between £1,000,000 and £1,250,000, and out of that amount the University of Sydney will benefit to the

extent of about £350,000 or £400,000; the| University of Brisbane to the extent of

£200,000, and the Presbyterian Church to the extent of £150,000. There will also be available out of the residue of the

estate £250.000 for the widows and child-dren of A.I.F. soldiers.
