FAREWELL PARTIES

A social evening «as held at Mrs Millar's residence to farewell and make a presenta-tion to Mr H. Langley, who bas enlisted with the A.LF. Those in attendance enjoyed themselves to the music supplied by Mrs and Mr Carter (piano and saxophone). G. Dillon and D. Fowley played extras. During- 'he evening Mr W. Reynolds presented Private W. H. Langley with a wristlet watch suitably engraved, also a wtllet of notes from the

citizens of Norbank estate and a fountain pen and pencil from his brother, Frederick. Mr J. Carson supported Mr Reynolds's remarks. Mr G. Langley, father of Private Langley, re-sponded. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.

A farewell dance and social evening, was tendered in the Kabra Hall to bid farewell to Mr H. A. Barke, who for the past foar years has been school teacher at Kabra. On account of the falling off In the attendance of pupils the school has been closed. Mr Barke was presented with a fountain pen and pencil, encased, and suitably engraved, also a cheque and other valuable presents and a letter of thanks from the Rockhampton Patriotic Pond. During the evening Miss Myrtle Preece rendered a solo. Mrs Briggs (Gracemere), Miss L. Williams (Kabra) were the pianists. Mr J. Preece, who was M.C., spoke of Mr Barke's stirring qualities as » citizen and wished him every success in his new sphere of residence. Mr w. Burchardt,

chairman of the Kabra State School, referred to Mr Barke's qualities as a school teacher. Mr J. McKeown (Boongary) and Mr F. Coker (chairman or the Kabra .Patrictic Fund) spoke of Mr Barke's qualities and his keen interest In Patriotic Fund work in the capac-ity of secretary of this branch. Mr F. Coker then made the presentation. Mr H. A. Bk rice suitably repsonded and stated that he deeply regretted leaving Kabra. The gathering then sang "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow." Dainty refreshments were then served in the supper room. A novelty was won by Mr Briggs, from Gracemere, and Miss T. Borchardt. Malchi. The singing of "Auld Lang Syne" brought the function to a close. Mr H. A. Berke left by Tuesday's train for Kandanga.
