HOT RECEPTION TO KANGAROO' UNIT

From PETER MlCHELMORE

Port Augusta, Saturday. — Maureen O'Hara and other members of the 'Kangaroo' film unit spent their first day here today in a temperature which reached 98 deg. ?

They arrived by car trom Port Pirie last night, and went into residence at the camp known as Hollywood Park, outside Port Augusta in the Lower Flinders Ranges.

It was a lazy first day at the site for the Americans. Tired out after a lightning round of receptions in Adelaide, Miss O'Hara slept until midday. Peter Lawford, v Richard Bqone, and director Lewis Milestone went shopping in Port Augusta, and created a stir in the town. While buying sunglasses, sun hats, and magazines the stars were mobbed by small local children seeking autographs Lawford spent part of the morning practising cracking the stockwhip which he will have to use expertly in the film. This afternoon Lawford and Boone went for a swim in the Gulf Pleased with quarters The OS film stars, were pleased with the accommodation at Hollywood Park. Hollywood Park comprises 24 comfortable prefabricated homes. Each is equipped with three bedrooms, a bathroom containing two showers, a laundry, a septic tank, and the latest kerosene burners for heating water. All meals, including those tor the stars and executives, will be cooked in a huge community kitchen. Fruit juices will be served with every meal and there will be a choice of dishes. I moved in with the film unit last night and saw the prepa

rations made for the comfort of the film unit. In one refrigerator, I counted six dozen chickens and three dozen turkeys. Another was full of tomatoes and lettuce. Miss O'Hara at lunch today helped herself to a large serve of salad, reached for a little brown jug, and said: 'Look, real home-made boiled salad dressing.' The party will go on location every day, a distance of about 12 miles, in a fleet of buses. Start next week Mr. Milestone said the stars would probably not see the actual location site until tomorrow morning.Rehearsals Rehearsals would take place next week, but the actual shooting of the film was not expected to start for at least a week It is freely rumored in Port Augusta that when the 20th Century-Fox unit moves from the site at Catringa, Ealing Studios will move in and begin shooting 'Robbery Under Arms.' The manager for Ealing Studios has visited the site, and the buildings were erected by technicians on loan to 20th Century-Pox.
