Brighton Lacrosse Premiers

WIN FROM TORRENS

BRIGHTON again defeated East Torrens in today's lacrosse challenge final, final, and are A Grade premiers for 1937.

East Torrens played much better. The match was keenly fought until the last quarter, when Brighton added four goals to Torrens one, and ran out winners by 11 goals to 7. This is Brighton's first premiership since they entered the A Grade section in 1934, and they thoroughly earned the title. In B Grade, St. Peter's (Glenelg) secured their second premiership in their second year in the game. They defeated Brighton in a keen match by one goal. On their form, St. Peter's will in all probability enter the senior section next season. Legacy Club, in C Grade, annexed the premiership after another close game, defeating Brighton by four goals to two. INTERSTATE MATCH Today's matches finalised the competition for 1937, but East Torrens will play Malvern (Victoria) next Saturday. Both teams were minor premiers in the senior section. In the A Grade match, Brighton opened the scoring with two goals from M. Jenkins. East Torrens had altered the placing of their team from last week, and J. Muecke was keeping a close check on R. Jenkins. East Torrens put on two goals, both from Symonds, and the quarter-time scores were two all. Early in the second quarter Brighton scored twice, through J. and W. Horwood. W. Selth added one for Torrens, and W. Horwood scored again for Brighton. Then Francis, who was playing a great game at centre for Brighton, came with a great dash. Dodging past two players, he ran across goal and scored with a great backhand flick. Kidd and Graham scored for Torrens, and the quarter ended: — Brighton, 6; East Torrens, 5. EVEN QUARTER Play in the third quarter was very even. Symonds levelled the scores with a nice goal, but Francis put Brighton ahead with another great length shot. Symonds, fighting hard, scored, and the third quarter ended 7 all. Brighton opened the last quarter with great dash. J. Horwood dodged his opponent and placed Brighton ahead. Torrens fought hard to gain the lead, but Brighton were holding them well. Further goals from M. Jenkins, J. Horwood, K. Francis, and W. Horwood placed the issue beyond doubt. With a few minutes to go, Kidd scored for East Torrens. Final. Brighton, 11; East Torrens, 8. Goalthrowers. — Winners — J. Horwood and Francis (each 3), M. Jenkins, W. Horwood (each 2), R. Jenkins.
