In September Mr. Justino Ferguson i and a jury beard an action in which I Eden George, a former member of the
State House, sued "Truth" and "Tile Sportsman," claiming £20,000 damages in respect of an article, accusing the i plaintiff of having made losing bets ! for substantial sums willi leading ( bookmakers and then leaving for Ame ri. ca without honouring his obligations.
The jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff with £5000 damages,
i "Truth" appealed to the Full Court,
and to-day judgment was given that Iii ere should be a new trial, to be limited to the question of damages.
The Court was of the opinion Unit thc damages awarded were unreasonably high and thal thc jury must have heeii
