Capt. C. D. Barnard

They will use a new Avro Avian plane, which Kingsford Smith bought two weeks ago. Kingsford Smith is now in Manches-ter, making tests with the plane. Captain Barnard announced today that he would accompany Kingsford Smith on his flight. They hoped to break the record— Hink-ier's, if it stood, or a new one that Capt. Matthews might make in a few days, he said. They were planning a series of 1,000 mile hops— the first to Rome. Capt. Barnard achieved fame by flights with the Duchess of Bedford from England to India and back, and by a record return flight to Capetown last April. Since then he has made record non-stop flights to Malta and Morocco.
