MUSICIANS WILL MAKE TALKIE MELODIES

McDonagh Sisters Get Host Of Applicants: Union Defied

MELBOURNE, Monday.— As a result of an advertisement on Saturday for musicians, the McDonagh Sisters hope to be able to start rehearsals in a day or two, despite the union's ban on musicians lending their services to talkie makers, for the music of their talking picture, The Cheaters, which they plan to enter for the Commonwealth prize. 'We have had so many applicants that we hope to be able to choose an orchestra of 16 easily from among them,' they said today. 'We are already in touch With a conductor.'' Following the publication of the advertisement, it was stated in union circles that the vicinity of the studio would be picketed to prevent the engagement of non-unionists or unionists; preference for the latter having been emphasised in the advertisement. No picketing occurred however.
