MRS. CURTIN IS GUEST AT FREMANTLE CEREMONY

The foundation stone for a high school described as a community centre for all ages was laid yesterday on a wind-swept hill overlooking Fremantle and the harbour.

An honoured guest at the ceremony was Mrs. John Curtin, widow of the World War II Prime Minister after whom the school was named. * Mrs. Curtin is shown in the picture reading the inscription on the foundation stone. The school will be known as the John Curtin High School. In a speech during the ceremony, the Minister for Works (Mr. Tonkin) said it would be the first of its kind in W.A. Its wide range of facilities, including indoor and outdoor theatres, would be available to the children, youth organisations, and adults working in the interests of the children and the school. The stone-laying was performed by the Premier (Mr. Hawke).
