FRENCH HORSE WINS THE ASCOT GOLD CUP LONDON, Thurs.-French horses filled the first two placings in the Ascot Gold Cup of 21 miles today. Elpenor won by a short head from Silex in a photo-finish.

The 8 to 1 chance, Blarneystone, was two lengths away third. The four-year-old Elpenor, who is owned by M. Marcel Boussac, started at 100 to 8 and Silex at 8's. Premonition, who ran fourth, and Northern Light were equal favourites at 4 to I. The King Edward VII Stakes over 1i miles for three-yearold colts was won by Rashleigh. He beat the Aga Khan's Tarjoman by a length with Blue Prince. 21 lengths farther back third. The stewards objected to the 5 to I winner, who was ridden by Sir Gordon Richards, but they later withdrew the objection.

Arabian Night collided with the rails when in the lead, with less than a furlong to go, and caused a scrimmage in which the Derby winner, Never Say Die, suffered. Never Say Die finished fourth. Yesterday Mr. Paul Hatvany's five-year-old Chivalry won the Royal Hunt Cup run over 7 furlongs and 155 yards. Chivalry won in a photo-finish with King of the Tudors. Chivalry, who started at 33 tc 1, is by Prince Chevalier from Ann of Austria and was ridden by Dominic Forte. The winner's share of the -prize was £A3,931. Mr. John Dewar's One Thousand Guineas winner, Festoon, won the Coronation Stakes.
