BORIC ACID IN MILK.

Speaking of the recommendation by the Food Conference., which sat in Sydney, I that concentrated milk containing more ! add as a preservative should not be permitted to go into consumption, Mr. Alex. i Hay, of Coolangatta, said, at a meeting of

the Bacchus Marsh Company on Monday last "Leading scientific opinion has demonstrated that a small quantity of boric acid such as is used is harmless, and when-ever the health officials and food faddists set out to endeavor to prove otherwise bebefore an impartial tribunal they are hopelessly

defeated. Concentrated milk is a more highly concentrated article than either sweetened or unsweetened condensed'

| milk, and consequently of greater food I

value, and yet it is proposed to wipe this [industry out of existence."
