JUST SEE What We Have Secured FOR YOU . . .

Knitting directions for this, the very latest in imported swimming suits . . . created

especially for smart

Australians!

GOLDEN sun-drenched beaches, skies of azure blue, and a tumbling surf will soon be a-calling you. And for all those who relish invigorating swimming freedom, who demand the smartest for those hours of luxurious "lazing" on the beach, here's the perfect garment!

This intriguing surf suit of royal-blue, with its unique shoulder treatment, its general air of dignity, plus allure, has just arrived by air mail from the London house of Viyella. Easy to see, it carries a definite assurance of the highest achievement in style, chic, and luxury-and yours for the expenditure of a few shillings, and pleasant effort!

IT is made in Viyella, 4-ply wool in

royal-blue, with fascinating shoulder-straps of white wool, crocheted double and slotted through scarlet rings. But more unusual still is the design, half-ribbed, half-plain. What is more, in spite of its smartness, it happily con-forms to every stringent beach regula-

tion.

Materials: 8oz. royal-blue 3-ply Viyella wool, 1oz. white 3-ply Viyella wool, a pair of No. 12 needles, a No. 12 Stratnoid crochet hook, 2 scarlet wood rings.

Measurements: To fit a 32-34-inch bust.

Tension: 8 sts. to 1 inch.

Abbreviations: K., knit; p., purl; sts., stitches; d.c., double crochet.

The Front

KNICKERS: 2 pieces worked alike, in

stocking-stitch, knitting into the back of all cast-on sts. Cast on 32 sts. K. into the back, then cast on 3 sts. at the beginning of every row until there are 116 sts. Work on these for 4 inches, then decrease 1 st. at each end of every 4th row until 104 sts. remain. Continue on these sts. until outside edge measures 10 inches. Do not cast off, but leave on a spare needle. Skirt: Cast on 104 sts.

P. 52 (k. 2, p. 2) 13 times. Repeat these

2 rows until 12 inches have been done from lower edge. Place the knickers, right side towards you behind the needle containing the skirt sts., also right side towards you. Knit in pattern along the row, knitting together one st. from each needle.

Next Row: P. 52, k. 2, p. 2 alternately to end. Keeping the sequence of the rib and stocking-st. as before, decrease 1 st. at each end of every alternate row until there are 88 sts. Continue on these sts. for 3 inches.** Increase 1 st. at each end of every alternate row until there are 96 sts. Continue on these for 50 rows. With the right side of the

work towards you, rib 48 sts., turn, leav-ing the remaining sts. on a spare needle.

Next Row: Take 2 tog., rib to end. Next Row: In rib.

Repeat these 2 rows until 40 sts. re-main, then still decreasing at inside edge in every alternate row, decrease at side edge in every row, until 4 sts. remain. Cast off. Join in wool at centre and work other side to match, keeping in stocking-st. throughout.

Shoulder-Straps

THESE are made from lengths of chain,

made with white wool used double. Make 3 lengths of chain, about 2 yards long. Plait, fasten ends, thread through back slots. Sew the two points of the front over the scarlet rings. Draw the straps through the rings, leaving two loops hanging down front.
