PICNIC

The firm of Bridgland & Atterton held their annual picnic on Wednesday. The party, num-berring 70, left the city in three drags, and after an enjoyable drive arrived at Mrs. D. O'Connor's picnic ground at Clarendon. A capital programme of sports was provided. At the luncheon the fol-

lowing toasts were honored -"The firm," proposed by Mr. C. T. Hewitt, and responded to by Mr. F. H. Bridgland and Mr. E. Atterton, "The ladies," proposed by Mr. E. Stevenson, and replied to by Mrs. Milne; and "The employes," proposed by Mr. F. Smith, and responded to by Mr. W. H. Loveridge. The following were the results of the sports -Ladies' "thread the needle" race. Miss A. Rock, Miss F. Seery, Ladies' "winding the cot-ton race"-Miss A. Phiel, Miss L. Lanthois. Men's 130 yards handicap-E. Barns, E. Stevenson, P. Anderson. Kangaroo race-F. Smith, E. Barns. Cricket match, ladies versus men-Men won. The prizes were distributed by Mrs. Atterton. After tea a programme of dancing and singing was car-ried out. Miss McPherson, Brice and Anthony, and Mr. T. Thomson rendered songs. Music was supplied by Loti's String Band.
