One candidate

Likely to win to-day

A special Government Gazette may be issued this afternoon if endorsed Labour candidate (Mr. T.

J. Doyle) is unopposed for the South Brisbane City Council ward. So far only Mr. Doyle's nomination has been received. Nominations close at midday to-day. If a by-election is necessary, it will cost about £1000. The seat became vacant when Aid. W. C. Coutts was elected to the Federal Parliament at the last Federal elections. The Citizens' Municipal Organisation and the Communist Party will not contest the seat. Only opposition could come from an independent. If the special gazette is issued, Mr. Doyle will be able to attend to-morrow's council meeting as an alderman.
