IN AND OUT OF BRISBANE with ANNETTE

HOLIDAYMAKERS barely had time to shake the sand from their shoes before they were planning their wardrobes to wear at some of this week's

line-up of weddings. Last night formal gowns made an early sea sonal appearance at the wedding of attractive Diana Maitland, only daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Noel Maitland, to Dr. Carl Cilento, second son of Sir Raphael and Lady Cilento, in St. Augustine's Church of Eng land, Hamilton. Diana broke away from traditional white, and wore palest shell pink brocaded faille made with wide skirt and strapless bodice. She added separate jacket willi fischu collar — 'and later I tcill add a huller neckline and have an evning frock,' »]ic said. Holding the .pink tulle veil in place was a circlet of matching pink orange blos som. Diana's bridesmaids, Cre ina Goldsmid and Margaret Patrick, wore silver grey silk net over grey taffeta— with touches of pink in their hair and in their bouquets. Reception was at Whyte cliffe. ? * * J± WEDDING bell which was 'rung' by the bridesmaids, sent a shower of confetti and rose petals over Beth Oelrichs and Bob Macintosh as they left St. Paul's Church of England, East Brisbane, after their wedding .last night. It was hum; at the lich gate outside the church. The bell, about two feet high, was made by Beth's mother, Mrs. H. T. Andrews, and was covered with white paper flowers. Beth more a sleeveless ivhilc satin frock iril/i an 'illusion' neckline of nylon tulle nppliqued in flowers and pearls. Her close-fitting jacket was made with stand-up collar and dolman sleeves. Bridesmaids, Judith Oel richs, Margaret Macintosh, and Ann Yeowart, wore un usual white nylon with 'but-

erfly' sleeves forming a rill from the shoulder. Touches of primrose — their shoes. in then bouquets and on their satin skull nips — added bright contrast. Bill Macintosh was best lan, and Peter Oelrichs nd Hubert Diddams the roomsmen. Reception was held at Twenty-nine Murray Street * * * THE picturesque old church of St. James in Toowoomba has been chosen for the wedding on Saturday of Sally Lord, of Rockdale, in the Stanthorpe district, to Geoff Ogg, of Winton. Jeanette Ogg will assist with the arrangements for the reception which will be held in the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr and Mrs. A. E. Ogg, of Too-woomba. Bridesmaid vas Marcia Field, and best nan John Wallace. ? ? * QN May 5 at about mid night Sidney and Betty Harris leave Brisbane to motor more than 1000 miles west to Birdsville for a shooting holiday. Belly has been shooting for about five years — ever since her senior year at Somerville House, tclicn she accompanied her father, Mr. J. M. Bau man on duck-shooting trips. For their Birdsville trip they will take two Brown ing automatic shot-guns and four rifles. They will motor through Charleville, Quilpie, and Windorah. After a week at Birds ville they will cross the border into South Aus tralia for three days' pig shooting. On the return trip to Bris bane they will stay over night with station people, in cludinjj Mr. and Mrs. O. Smith, of Gowrie, Charle ville, Mr. and Mrs. G. Akers. of Narran, Charleville, and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Rabig, of Windorah. But their 'expedition' will also be equipped with com plete camping equipment for nisrhts out on the road. They will both carry movie cameras. For some pre-trip prac tice, Sidney and Betty spent the Easter holidays shooting out near Tara, 80 miles from Ualby. ? ? * J)OUBLE excitement — first plane trip and first western holiday — for Rhonda Gargett, who leaves for Longreach on April 26. She will stay with Mr. and Mrs. A. Rayner, at Glendul loch — but will have a week at the Imperial Hotel in Longreach for May Week gaieties. Incidentally, May Week this year starts in April. ? * * TT'S first western visit, too. for Berenice Fitz Gerald, who flies to St. George on May 2, and then motors out to attend the Dirranbandi Matrons' and Spinsters' ball. She will stay with Mr. and Mrs. G. Armstrong. Berenice recently an nounced her engagement to Byron Williams, of Tam bingey, Dirranbandi, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Dawn, who wore pink broderie anglaise, celebrated both her 21st birthday and success in the finals of her pharmacy exams. * * * LOTS of common inter ests for cousins Mary Ann and Susan Raff, who spent recent holiday to gether in Warwick. Mary Ann, a seasoned traveller, who returned 18 months ago from a tour of England, France, and the Italian Riviera, passed on first-hand travel informa tion to Susan, who will sail in the Largs Bay in mid July for London. * + * (CENTRAL - WESTERN districts are following the lead of Muttaburra and holding parties in conveni ent wool sheds rather than in the towns. To-morrow night Aramac district hold a semi-formal party in the wool shed at Stagmount. home of Mrs. D. McAuliffe. It's an old shed and has taken six people four days to clean it up. Among the people motor ing in are Mr. and Mrs. J. Ahern, of Maylands, Gerry Dowling, of Rosebery Downs, Ted Bayliss, of Brookwood, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Barton, of Jabiru, Mr. and Mrs. Reid Geddes, of Glenample. An orchestra is coming from Longreach.

JPASHIONS EX DAI'.— Mrs. R. Dulhunty, who combined shiny pink sailor straw hat trimmed with navy band, with a combina tion blue and white silk frock. . . Adele Trigge, in cool floral frock down from Ipswich hospital where she is nursing. She spent a day with her family, the Rev. and Mrs. H. H. Trigge at King's College, and was in time to see her sis ter Pat Quant and Pat's small son Bryan, who are down from the north. * ? * ^ RECEPTION at Len nons followed the wed ding of Patricia Jackson, of Wavell Heights (formerly of Gladstone) and Ray Jeff coat, of Indooroopilly, in St. Agatha's Church, Clay field. V)UE home to-morrow after more than two years in America is Joy Wardell, who arrives in the Pioneer Reef. During her time over seas she has worked for the. British Embassy in Washington, has spent hotidays in IS'assau, in the Bahamas, in Florida, and in /Vein Orleans. Main reason for her re turn is to attend the wed ding of her brother, Bill, to Claire Maher, of Townsville, which will be held in Bris bane on June 16.

BRIDAL KISS: Sir Raphael Cilento stole the first kiss from the bride after the wedding of his son Dr. Carl Cilento and Diana Maitland in St. Augustine's, Hamilton, last night.

ENGAGED: Cecily Stokes eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Stokes, Ashgrove, and John Ahern, elder son of Dr. and Mrs. E. D. Ahern, Hamilton, who have just announced their engagement.

CHECKING: Solo, a pet kangaroo, was interested when Sidney and Betty Har-ris checked over their guns before they leave for a shooting holi-day to Birds-ville in May.

TRY-ON: Rhonda Gar-gett, who leaves on April 26 for a holiday in the Longreach district, tries on new jodhpurs and shirt bought for the trip.

HOLIDAY: First western visit for Berenice FitzGerald who will attend the Matrons' and Spinsters' ball in Dirranbandi next month. Berenice has announced her engagement to Byron Williams, of Dirranbandi.
