Went to altar in wrong shoes

OLD shoes are a symbol of good luck at weddings and "something old" part of the bridal dress tradition.

Last night a well-known Brisbane bride followed both signs unconsciously, when she went to the altar in an old pair of black shoes with her magnolia satin bridal gown. She did not discover the error until after the cere-mony. She was Dr. Ruth Cilento, who was married to Mr. Westall Smout in All Saints' Church. After the ceremony she re-placed her black shoes with silver bridal slippers. The wedding was of wide in-terest in medical circles, as the bride is a daughter of Sir Raphael and Lady Cilento, Annerley. Her brother, Dr. R. C. F. Cilento, gave her away. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. (Ted) Smout (Hawthorne), is a fourth-year medical student. He was attended by Mr. John Smout, and by Mr. Carl Cilento. Mrs. R. C. F. Cilento and Miss Erica Mitchell at tended the bride. Lady Cilento received the quests at a reception at Twenty-Nine Murray Street.

And here it a happy study of the bride and groom.
