MOVE TO REDUCE SOCCER CLUBS OUT

SOCCER clubs have rejected a move to reduce the number of first division teams from 10 to eight for the

1947 season. The notice of motion, tabled by

the treasurer (Mr. R. Baird), at a special meeting of the Q.S.F.A. this week, sought the relegation of the three bottom teams in thefirst division— Shafston Rovers, Thistle, and Booval— and the pro-motion of Oxley, the winners of the B senior premiership. As the position now stands the constitution will be adhered to, and provides for the position held by the team with the lowest num-ber of points to be declared vacant at the end of the season. As Booval is the team con-cerned they, with Oxley, will have to apply for first division status next season, when a de-cision will be reached by the vote of the delegates.

The delegates were unanimous in their decision to provide for a C division next season. B and C senior will be restricted to eight teams each. Relegation and pro-motion will apply to these grades. To-morrow's Attraction Three keen games will be staged at Langlands Park to-morrow. The New South Wales schoolboys will oppose Brisbane at 12.45 p.m. in the first game of their Queens-land tour. The Brisbane boys will be under the eyes of the selectors for inclusion in the State team to meet New South Wales on August 31 on this ground. The N.S.W. boys will play Ipswich at Bun-damba on Wednesday. The second round of the Brough Cup will be played at 2 p.m. be-tween Y.M.C.A. and Shafston Rovers. Shafston won well against Corinthians last week, and will fully test Y.M.C.A. in this game. The match will be played on the knock-out basis. The main game, between Y.M.-C.A. and Corinthians, at 3 p.m. in the Tristram Shield competi-tion, is expected to produce an ex-cellent exhibition, for the past meetings of the teams have re-sulted in close finishes. Patrons will remember their last meeting, when Corinthians won by the nar-row margin of 6-5. after one of the finest games seen on the ground Larrobe v. S. Helens Latrobes and St. Helens will pro-vide a real cup-tie game at Gregory Park, Milton. Recently the home team defeated Black-stone Rovers there, and judging by their enthusiasm for this encoun-ter a thrilling struggle should be witnessed. Both teams will field 90-minute players but the super-iority of Saints' half-line in Fol-lett, Gibb, and Pitcairn. may de-cide the game in their favour. At Raymond Park Shafston Rovers are confident of holding Bundamba Rangers, whilst the Thistle club expect to play their way into the semi-finals by de-feating Booval at Booval. Reserve grade Brough Cup knock-out games for Saturday are: Y.M.C.A v. Shafston (Langlands Park), 2 p.m.; Latrobe v. Blackstone (Gregory Park), 2p.m.; Easts v. St. Helens (Heath Park), 3 p.m.; Bundamba v Thistles (Bundamba), 3 p.m.
