RIVER MURRAY NAVIGATION

A correspondent has sent us the following:— 'The new paddle stcamcr Gundagai on an excursion and trial trip, called at Milang on Wednesday morning, Septem ber 19th. The steamer lay about 60ft from the shore

opposite the flagstaff and the party on board , amongst whom we noticed Mrv Thos. Jones, Captain Cadell and several gentlemen from the Goolwa, came on shore under a salute and hearty, cheers from the residents, many of whom were not aware. of the steamer's visit. After visiting the Milang Inn and having taken refreshment, Captain Cadell kindly invited Mrs. and Miss Brooks and several others to go on board to inspect the Gundagai. She then steamed off, and stopping about a mile from Milang the party returned in Mr. Brook's whaleboat, the steamer afterwards proceeding to the Goolwa. The Gundagai is a most beautiful vessel, her internal fitting up being unique; the draught of water was about 13 inches. Captain Cadell expressed much pleasure st the progress of Milang since his last visit, and stated his intention of calling there once a month for the future. The next new steamer is to be called the Milang. The tents latterally pitched in this locality while houses are being built show that the fertility of this portion of South Australia is becoming, as it ought to be, well known. The splendid garden of Mr. Brooks quite surprised Captain Cadell and his visitors. There is a turnip growing therein measur ing 28 inches which only has been sown 13 weeks. The wheat in this district is looking beautiful.
