Bill To Close Mundaring Weir Railway Provision for the discontinuance of a railway which wis constructed in 1898, to transport materials for the erection of Mundaring Weir, is contained in a Bill which was explained in the LegislativeCouncil last night. Moving the second reading of the Railway (Mpndaring-Mundaring Weir) Discontinuance Bill, the Minister for Transport (Mr. Simpson) said that the line was 4 5-8 miles in length. It was last used for passenger service in July, 1950, and for goods operations in September of last year. Since then, he said, all passengers had been adequately catered for by the railway bus service. Goods traffic, which was mainly fruit and produce of settlers in the vicinity, was also transported by road. Mr. Simpson said it was proposed that the materials recovered would be used in the new line to be constructed at Collie. It was estimated that there was five miles of 601b. rails, 17 chains of 451b. rails, ten sets of points and approximately 7,000 sleepers. The debate was adjourned.
